Alvin Thrist Sr.  of Rockford departed this earthly life August 16, 2021. He was born May 1, 1934 in Camden, Arkansas the son of Andrew and Lillie Thrist. Alvin lived 60 years in Rockford coming from Buffalo, New York. He married the former Lorene Elliott November 30 1991. Alvin was employed as a machine setup man by Rockford Power Train 30 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Alvin was a faithful usher serving while he was at New Direction, Providence and Liberty Baptist Church.  Alvin was a member of the Welcome Star Lodge #36 PHA F&AM in which he received his 32nd degree. He graduated from Camden High School.

Alvin leaves to cherish many loving memories, his wife, Lorene; son, Alvin Thrist Jr;  two step children, Roy Hollins and Doris Hollins-Curtis; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; five brothers, Emmitt (Mary), Albert (Mary), Oliver (Loretta), Raymond (Diane) and Ralph (Marilyn) Thrist; three sisters, Marilyn Thrist, Opal Armstrong and Ervin Ware; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, ten brother and five sisters.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday,  August 26, 2021 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church 2919 19th Street. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
