Bennie Lewis "Jake" Matlock of Rockford departed this earthly life January 29, 2022. He was born March 5, 1942 in Sparkman, Arkansas the son of Bennie D. and Earnestine Matlock. Bennie lived 55 years in Rockford coming from Arkansas. He married the former Freddie Matlock, March 16, 1963, she preceded him in death. Bennie was employed as a machine operator by Rockford Products 42 years before retiring.  He was a member of Gomez Chapel A.M.E. Church serving in the choir, as President, Trustee and Male chorus. Bennie graduated from Sparkman Training School.

Bennie leaves to cherish many loving memories, five sons, Victor (Kenyatta), Raymond (Crystal), Ronald (Louann), Frederick (Gloria) and Dwight (Victoria) Matlock; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; five sisters, Carolyn Bivens, May Johnson, Lillie (Johnny) Penix, Ruthie Matlock and Teresa Golden; two brothers Dennis (Wynette) Matlock and James (Tanya) Matlock; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife; sisters, Dorothy Brown and Francis Matlock; five brothers, Lewis Edward, Pernell,  Roger, Charles and William Matlock.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Gomez Chapel A.M.E Church 1509 Michigan Ave. Visitation will be held 12:00 noon until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
