Bernella T. Cathey of Rockford departed this earthly life October 12, 2022. She was born August 14, 1941 in Helena, Arkansas the daughter John Sr. and Mary Thomas. Bernella lived in Rockford 9 years coming from Maywood, IL. She married James Cathey Sr., August 8, 1983, he preceded her in death.  Bernella was employed as a sales clerk by Minnesota Fabrics 25 years before retiring. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.  She attended Eliza Middle School.

Bernella leaves to cherish many loving memories, daughter, Phellanesice (Timothy) Pugh; five grand daughters, Monique and Marquita Daniel, Alexis,  Ebony and Shadae Thomas; four great grand children; two brothers, Albert "Bill" (Celestine) Thomas and John (Churstine) Thomas; sister Irene Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, husband; one son, two daughters;  six sisters and  one brothers.

10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church 2209 Clifton Avenue. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
