Obituary

Calvin Wayne Squire, 74, born on September 15, 1949, to Ella Pearl Squire and the late Leroy Squire, fell asleep in death on November 15, 2023.

Embarking on his journey in Rockford, Illinois, Calvin's scholarly pursuit led him through the hallowed halls of Auburn High School, where he graduated in 1968. His thirst for knowledge found solace at Rock Valley College for two enriching years, laying the bedrock for his future endeavors.

Calvin fulfilled his duty to the nation, earning an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force after four years of service. He married Lynda Royston, on April 2, 1971, in Belleville, IL. Their union flourished, nurturing the arrival of their first daughter, Simone L. Squire, and seven years later, they welcomed the arrival of their second daughter, Kenya N. Squire. In 1974, a new chapter beckoned as he embraced a career with Commonwealth Edison that lasted until his retirement in 2002. Calvin was a former member of New Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Calvin leaves behind a legacy etched in the hearts of many. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda Squire, his daughters Simone L. Squire and Kenya N. Squire (partner Cory Ollins), and his cherished mother, Ella Pearl Squire, Rockford, IL. Calvin's memory is embraced by his siblings: Theresa Hill of Houston, TX; Sharon (Larry) Ellis of Minneapolis, MN; Cheryl Squire of San Diego, CA; Rosalind Squire of Dallas, TX; and Leroy Squire, Jr., of Rockford, IL. Nine adoring grandchildren mourn Calvin's passing: Calvin M. Squire, Grant Cephas, Michael Cephas, Jr., Ryan Cephas, Cyian Ollins, Cory Ollins Jr., Jayden Ollins, Jaylen Ollins, and Kayden Ollins. He leaves behind a treasury of cherished memories woven into the lives of numerous nieces and nephews.

Calvin is preceded in death by his father, Leroy Squire, and fondly remembered in the embrace of his departed grandparents, Fannie and Charles Wortham and Asa Squire.
