Charles Edward Horton Sr., of Rockford departed this earthly life February 7, 2022. He was born January 9, 1950 in Athens, Alabama the son of Wiley Jr., and Margret Horton. Charles lived in Rockford since 1956 coming from Athens.  Charles was employed by Gunite, Twin Disc and as a detailer by Rock River Ford. He grew up as a member of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and later became a member of West Side Church of God in Christ. Charles attended Auburn High School.

Charles leaves to cherish many loving memories, his son, Charles Horton Jr.; daughters, Marlene (Demetris) King and Chenelle (Wens ) Fanouth; two grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Horton and Mary Jack; brother Hallie (Taie) Powell III; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including companion of many years, Sandra Hammond. He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Deon and Derrick Horton; Ola Powell; brothers, James and Danny Horton.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2022 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church 2919 19th Street. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc.
