Charles J. “Sir Charles” Townsend of Rockford departed this earth life July 26, 2026. He was born December 3, 1956 in Detroit, MI the son of JC and Levander Townsend. Charles lived in Rockford over 40 years coming from Detroit, MI. He was employed as welder by Chrysler Corporation 33 years before retiring. Charles attended Kettering Senior High School.

Charles leaves to cherish many loving memories, two daughters Diana Cole, Ebony Ruffin and Malina Barnes; two sons, Terrence Ruffin and Sir Charles Townsend; 14 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; companion of 35 years Sylvia Ingram; three step daughters, Janetka (Patrick Brooks) Ingram, Carrell (Jewel) Hoover and Cilia Purifoy; four sisters, Peggy Townsend, Shirleeta Ruffin, Sharon Townsend and Rosalyn Townsend; two brothers, William and Terrence Townsend; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including god daughter Mariah Neal and her children he loved like his own grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Norma Townsend and Markitta Townsend and brother Michael Townsend.

Visitation will be held 2:00p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
