Obituary

Denver Edwards was born on May 28, 1953 on the island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. His parents were Florence Wilma Peters and Maurice Edwards. Denver spent most of his childhood in Antigua, except for a little time spent in St. Thomas, USVI, with his mother. Denver returned to Antigua from St. Thomas and finished his formal education. After high school, he learned the trade of refrigeration and obtained employment in the Public Works Department in Antigua until he emigrated to the United States.

Denver met and married Denise Swepson in 1975. Denver migrated to St. Thomas in 1976, where his first son Denver, Jr. was born. Denver moved from St. Thomas to Rockford, IL, at the persistent urging of his special sister, Dawn Charles Thompson. Cousins Denver and Dawn were raised by their maternal grandparents Samuel and Ada Peters where they developed a strong sister/brother bond. Denver and his family resided with Dawn until they moved into their own home within the same community. Denver and his wife had two additional sons. Denver and his wife later divorced and he took on the sole responsibility of raising his three sons.

Denver's mother moved from St.Thomas to Rockford when Leonard was starting Kindergarten. She remained in the home with Denver and the boys and assisted in raising them until the time of her passing in June 2023.

Denver was employed at Ingersoll as a pipe-fitter until retirement. In 1980, Denver became a member of The Brothers Motor Cycle Club of Rockford, IL, and earned the moniker of "Shado" and there he formed lifelong friendships.

Denver passed away at home on May 30, 2024, two days after his 71st birthday, and one week before the first anniversary of his mother's passing. Denver is survived by his sons  Denver, Jr., Andre, and Leonard Edwards; the love of his life Martha Jones; his daughter-in-law Mary; his granddaughter Arianna Dawn, and his two bonus grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Peter in England; his aunt Estella Pigott; his aunt Glenda Nicholas; his many cousins; his brother/friends James Wilson (Kilroy) and Monty Thompson (Matt); his close Antiguan childhood friends Eustace Dowe, Patrick "Buel" Skeritte, Edison Gregory; and many friends in Rockford, too numerous to mention.

Denver was predeceased by his loving mother Florence Wilma Haynes, aunts Christine Morris, Iris Jacobs, Audrey Henry, Irene Peters, and Ionie Peters; his uncles Hezekiah Peters and Leonard Johnny Peters.
