D errick D. Burrell-Woods, 28, departed this earthly life after a long illness on Thursday, February 17, 2022, in New York NY. Derrick was born July 27, 1993, in Freeport, IL to Gracie Burrell, and adopted on July 8, 1998, by Larry and Serrita Woods. He attended Rockford Auburn High School and graduated from Roosevelt Alternative High School in 2011.

D errick accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of eight at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Rockford IL.  He was a successful athlete in his early years, playing football, basketball, wrestling, and running summer track.

D errick had a big personality who always made his presence known with his infectious laugh, storytelling, and quick one-liners. He was an avid fashionista and enjoyed designing and making his own clothes.

D errick was a natural-born leader and helper. Even while battling his illness, he continued to pay it forward and help others.

D errick leaves to cherish memories with parents Larry and Serrita Woods, brothers Tory Cooper, Rockford, IL, Andy Burrell-Woods, Milwaukee WI, Patrice Wildgoose (Laurence), Hyattsville MD, and Dominique Burrell-Woods, Indianapolis, IN, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
