Dorothy "Boo" Lee Felton, 79, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022, after a brief illness. Born June 16, 1942 in Durant, MS, the daughter of Monroe C. Cook and Ellen "Monk" Butler, she graduated from Durant Attendance Center and moved to Rockford, IL in 1962. She married Woodroe Felton and was blessed with two sons. After their paths diverged, she joined Robert Brown in a 30-year union that blessed them with two daughters. Dorothy attended Rock Valley Community College and dedicated her life to helping teens and at-risk youth. Dorothy worked numerous years at OIC Vocational Institute and Booker Washington Community Center as the Placement Coordinator and later as the Dean of Admissions. A mentor to many, she was known for her unfiltered statements, funny comments, caring heart, and zeal for righting the wrong. Dorothy loved God and actively served in the church. Formerly a member of People's Community Church and Gomez AME Chapel, in Rockford, she joined Emmanuel AME Zion shortly after moving to Georgia. She was a quick-witted, kind, and loving woman who had a servant's heart. She will be remembered for her love of God, smart mouth, amazing food, and abundant generosity.
