James Gregory “Big G” Hyatt, of Columbia, SC departed this life July 18, 2026, after a long-fought health battle. He was born September 9, 1972, in Rockford, IL the son of James and Katchie Hyatt. James was a member of Eagle Christian Fellowship Church. He graduated from Jefferson High School class of 1993 and received his Associate's degree from ITT Tech in Schaumburg, IL. He was employed 20 years as an over the road truck driver and trainer by several trucking companies, driving last for L.I.S.A. James then made Columbia, SC home in 2018.James leaves to cherish many loving memories; two daughters, Jemece (Dylan) Rossmiller and Jaquese Hyatt; two sons, Tayvier Pearson and Deandre Hyatt; parents, James and Katchie Hyatt; aunt, Claudia Marshall; nephew, Andre Hyatt; niece, Shenitra Hyatt; great nieces, Ahzyer and Ahnor Hyatt; long time friend Sonia Jenkins and a host of special God-sisters and other loving relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Andre L Hyatt Special thanks and recognition going to his medical team; Fresenius Dialysis, South Carolina Oncology team, Atrium Health of Charlotte, VIA Hospice, Glenn Stewart, Michelle Glover and Leonora Gentry. Services will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Living Faith Tabernacle 530 8th Street Rockford, IL 61104. Visitation 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
