James Edward Saunders of Rockford departed this earthly life August 22, 2021. He was born December 2, 1946 in Chicago, IL the son of Richard and Ruth Saunders. James lived in Rockford almost 50 years coming from Dekalb, IL. He married the former Paulette Powell, December 6, 1980 in Rockford. James was a teacher by O.I.C., later to become a broadcaster by WYBR Radio and with the maintenance department at Bethel Baptist Church, later became a barber at Chucks Barber Shop. James was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, serving in the male chorus. He graduated from High School in Chicago; received his Bachelors degree from Northern Illinois University later to receive his Masters Degree from National Lewis University.

James leaves to cherish many loving memories, his wife, Paulette; a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Warner and Omar Saunders and two sisters, Geraldine           and Jessie Saunders.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
