Joan Buford of Rockford departed this earthly life October 28, 2022. She was born August 31, 1962 in Rockford the daughter of Iris Sherman and Charles Brown. Joan married Keith Buford, November 30, 2002;  he preceded her in death. She was employed as a Certified Nurses Assistant by Rockford Memorial Hospital 15 years before starting her own daycare, Busy Buford's Home Day Care. Joan was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church serving on the nurse guild, in the Choir, kitchen committee and serving where ever she was needed. She graduated from Auburn High School.

Joan leaves to cherish many loving memories, daughter, Sannayyiah Johnson; two sons, Kendall and Antwon Sherman; five grandchildren; Journee, Kennadi, Kentavion, Kendall Jr., and Zaire; two sisters, Judith Hildreth and Joyce Sherman; three brothers, Jack (Leonidas) Sherman, Kenneth (Valerie) Brown and Charles Sherman; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including god daughters, Kimberly Maxey, Sannayyiah Dubois, Tanetra Bell and Tacoya Bell; and god son, Deterrius Bell;  She was predeceased by her parents, husband; sister; grand daughter, Kendel Sherman.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
