John Dale "J.D." Billings of Rockford departed this earthly life January 2, 2022. He was born May 10, 1959 in Marion, Arkansas the son of John Billings and Hattie Hale-Sturghil, being raised by Roy Sturghil. John lived in Rockford over 40 years coming from Chicago. John was employed as a messenger by R and S Delivery Service. He was a member of Westside Church of God in Christ. John graduated from Marshall High School.

John leaves to cherish many loving memories, two sons, Johnail Yance and Andre (Renee) Yance; four grandchildren; Tyreece Armstrong, Anthony Williams, Damonty Williams and Natalia Yance; mother Hattie Sturghil; five sisters, Thelma Sturghil-Johnson, Debra Sturghil, Teresa Sturghil, Sharon Sturghil and Patrice (James) Mathews; three brothers, Llewellyn Sturghil, Corey Sturghil, and Antwan Sturghil; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father John Billings and step father Roy Sturghil.

Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday January 14, 2022 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
