John Michael
Hill
Aug 8, 1949 — Dec 9, 2021
Rockford
J ohn Michael (Mike) Hill of Rockford departed this earthly life on December 9, 2021. He was born August 8, 1949 in Athens, Alabama. He was the son of George and Mary Hill. Mike lived in Rockford most of his life.
Mike really enjoyed fishing. It was nice when he caught fish, but that was secondary to the fishing experience.
M ike was a truck driver for many years. Based on his many years driving trucks, Mike had extensive knowledge of the U.S. highway system. He freely shared this information with anyone planning a car trip. If you didn't want advice on the best route to take to your destination, you didn't tell Mike you were going. He was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church. He attended Rockford public schools.
M ike was always up to date on current events, and he studied history, particularly black history. His knowledge and interest in these subjects lead to many lively and spirited discussions. Mike fancied himself as a good cook. If you were on the phone with him while you were cooking, you were sure to get his thoughts on ingredients, seasonings, cooking time, and cooking temperature.
M ike leaves to cherish many loving memories, two sons: Japheth Brown and Jason Hill; daughter, Tammara McLin; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild; brothers, George "Ralph" (Regina) Hill; Dale (Shay) Brown; and Anthony Hill; Mike and Phillip Jamerson and sisters, Jackie (Freddie) Poole; Valerie Unger; Crystal Hill; Jacqueline Hill; Monique (Dennis) Stallworth; Kathy Jamerson; and Sue (Kenneth) Levingston; God sister, Georgia Cotton. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including special cousin/sister, Martha Linda McKenzie-Jones. He also leaves his former wife/friend, Evelyn Tucker. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Brian Hill, Jeff Hudson, Steve and Robin Jamerson.
Mike will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
