Melvin Louis Newsome Jr., of Rockford departed this earthly life February 13, 2025. He was born January 28, 1946 in New Hebron, Mississippi the son of Melvin Sr. and Delma Mae Newsome. Melvin lived in Rockford 50 years coming from New Hebron. He married the former Rosie Coleman, August 11, 1972, of this union two children were born, she preceded him in death. He later married  Elizabeth Camper, December 3, 2021. Melvin was employed as a welder by Gunite Foundry over 30 years before retiring. He graduated from New Hymn High School.

Melvin leaves to cherish many loving memories, his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters, Brenda Hinkle-Jones, Latasha Newsome and Monika (Dennis) Hill ; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five sisters, Carolyn Walker, Betty Moore,  Delois Magee, Loretta Hamilton and Kinyetta Jones; brothers Edward Earl Newsome, Thomas Newsome, Walter Newsome and Mikel Newsome; a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife of 46 years, Rosie Newsome; daughter, Veronica Tyler; brothers, Howard Newsome and four sisters, Doris Helen Newsome, Annie Hooker, Urickia Newsome and Doris Newsome.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc.  Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of service
