Merllean D. "Betty" Thompson, of Rockford departed this earthly life January 25, 2025. She was born July 31, 1952 in Epps, Louisiana the daughter of Otis and Roberta Day. Merllean lived in Rockford since 1985 coming from Epps. She married Sharinon Thompson, March 28, 1986, he preceded her in death. Merllean was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Mother of the church. She attended Magnolia School in Epps.

Merllean leaves to cherish many loving memories, five sons, Sharinon (Tisha) Thompson Jr; Willie Thomas Jr; Kevin (Tina) Thomas, Stevie (Shalon) Thomas and Lonnie Thomas; 29 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; three sisters, Janie Mackey, Brenda (Paul) Douglas and Christina (Sam) Harris; four brother Willie (Vickie) Day, Donald (Donna) Day, Otis (Leora) Day and Fred Day; a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; three brothers, Eddie Coleman, Earl Day and Brown Day;  three sisters Katherine Thomas, Billie Ruth Henderson, and Mattie Robinson.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church 4726 Jasper St. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangement by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc.
