Walter Lee Hardeway

Walter Lee “Skinny” Hardeway Sr., of Rockford departed this earthly life September 13, 2026. He was born July 18, 1936 in Grand Junction, TN the son of Ernest Sr. and Ida Hardeway. Walter lived in Rockford 6 years coming from Chicago, IL. He was a self employed mechanic many years, while in Chicago. Walter was a member of New Progressive Baptist Church, serving in the choir. He attended schools in Tennessee. Walter leaves to cherish many loving memories, his two sons, Walter Hardeway Jr., and Troy (Tamara) Hardeway; two daughters, Evion (Hardin) Robinson and Angela (Milton) Morrow; 11 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends including special grand daughter, Sharyn Murry. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patrica Murry; his parents, Ernest and Ida; former wife, Gladys Hardeway; six brother, Johnny Jenkins, Eddie Valentine Robert Valentine, Clarence Hurd, Richard Hurd and Raymond Hurd; two sisters, Laverne Hill and Louise Hill.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Visitation 12:00 noon until the time of service.
