William Edward Garrett of Rockford departed this earthly life, June 9, 2023. He was born September 5, 1943 in Alpine, Alabama the son of MD Sr., and Ollie Garret. William lived in Rockford 60 years coming from Alpine. He married Mary Defroe in Malvern, Arkansas, she preceded his in death. William was employed as a assembler by Chrysler Corporation 30 years before retiring.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. William was a member of St. Campbell Missionary Baptist Church where he joined at an early age and Bethel Baptist Church locally. He was formerly a member of the Welcome Star Lodge.  He graduated from Phyliss Wheatley  High School, in Childersburg, Alabama.

Williams leaves to cherish many loving memories, one daughter, Shawna Garrett; two grandchildren; Nakita Barbour and Deshaun Malone; great grandson, Jamarvion Barbour; six brothers, Elroy (Connie) Garrett, Rev. Urvan Sr., (Paula) Garrett,  Rev. Orlando Garrett,  MD Garrett Jr., Louis Garrett, Melvin (Conzeuela) Garrett; three sisters, Diane Garrett, Ella J. Garrett and Emma G. Allen; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Mary Garrett; son, William Garrett Jr.; sister, Patricia G. Swain.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
